China officially launched a new satellite ground station in the southwestern province of Yunnan on September 27.

Known as the "Lijiang Remote Sensing Satellite Ground Station," the facility was built by the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Located at an altitude of 2,827 meters, it boasts an ideal environment free of obstructions, making it highly favorable for receiving satellite data.

Thanks to these conditions, the area is considered excellent for satellite data reception.

The Lijiang Ground Station began trial operations in March 2023 and has successfully communicated with 26 national satellites of China to date.

The facility is equipped with four high-performance antennas, boasting a downlink speed of up to 2,000 megabits per second.

This rapid data reception capability is expected to greatly support China's various satellite sensing and observation activities in the future.

The launch of the Lijiang Ground Station is seen as a significant advancement in China's space development strategy.

The ground station enables the real-time reception and analysis of diverse sensing data transmitted from satellites, which can be utilized in various fields such as weather observation, terrain analysis, and disaster response.

In particular, the station's high elevation and open geographic environment enhance signal strength and stability, allowing for more accurate data transmission.

In recent years, China has invested heavily in the development of space technology, not only launching numerous satellites but also expanding ground stations like this one.
