The dairy farmers and dairy industry have joined forces to alleviate consumer burden due to high inflation and to promote the sustainable development of the dairy industry.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on the 30th, the Korea Dairy Committee decided to freeze this year's raw milk price after 14 rounds of negotiations.
This decision is evaluated as the result of a shared understanding between dairy farmers and the dairy industry, acknowledging mutual difficulties and forming a consensus for coexistence.
Although dairy farmers have faced increased production costs due to rising feed prices, they minimized their demand for price increases to stabilize consumer prices.
The dairy industry also agreed to freeze the raw milk price despite challenges such as decreased milk consumption and increased imports of sterilized milk, in a gesture of cooperation with dairy farmers.
With this freeze in raw milk prices, concerns over price increases for white milk and other dairy products are expected to be alleviated, thereby reducing the financial burden on consumers.
Additionally, the possibility of price increases for products that use milk as an ingredient, such as cookies, bread, and ice cream, is also expected to be low, thus addressing concerns about 'milkflation.'
In the negotiation, the Korea Dairy Committee agreed to reduce the purchase volume of drinking milk and increase the purchase volume of processed milk to flexibly respond to changes in market conditions and enhance the competitiveness of the dairy industry.
