Helium Star Optics, a Chinese supplier of space laser communication solutions, announced on the 16th that it has completed its 6th round of financing, raising hundreds of millions of yuan.
The funding, amounting to hundreds of millions of yuan, saw participation from key investors such as Minsheng Securities Investment Co., Ltd., Changzhou Xiangxing Information Technology Co., Ltd., Wuxi Huacang Kexin Venture Capital Partnership, and Wuxi Liangxi Science and Technology Innovation Industry Investment Fund Partnership.
In a statement on the 16th, the company said the funds will primarily be used for building mass production processes, research and development (R&D), and staffing.
Helium Star Optics emphasized the characteristics of space laser communication solutions required in the Chinese domestic market, stating, "The communication distance needs to be long, the size must be small, the power consumption should be low, the cost should be affordable, and mass production should be feasible." Specifically, the company mentioned that "technology capable of communication over a range of 10,000 to 7,200 km is needed for existing domestic (Chinese) satellite platforms weighing 50 to 500 kg."
