President Yoon, Departs Today to Attend NATO Summit

 

 

 

President Yoon Suk-yeol will depart on the 8th to attend the '2024 North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)' summit held in Washington, DC, USA.

This marks the third consecutive year that President Yoon has attended the NATO summit, a first for a South Korean president.

At this summit, President Yoon plans to deliver a strong warning message regarding the strengthening military cooperation between North Korea and Russia, and seek ways to bolster security through international cooperation with key allies.

Before heading to Washington, President Yoon will stop in Honolulu, Hawaii, for a two-day stay.

 

 

 

 

 

On the 8th, he will visit the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific and have a dinner meeting with local Korean residents. On the 9th, he will visit the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command to reaffirm the robustness of the South Korea-U.S. alliance.

Subsequently, President Yoon will move to Washington, DC, where on the 10th, he will have a series of bilateral meetings with leaders of more than five NATO member countries, including the Czech Republic, Sweden, Finland, and Norway, as well as NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg.

In these bilateral meetings, they will discuss current issues and the regional and international situation, focusing on cooperation in energy and security sectors.

Additionally, President Yoon and his wife, First Lady Kim Keon-hee, will attend a social dinner hosted by U.S. President Joe Biden and the First Lady.

On the morning of the 11th, President Yoon will attend the summit of the four Indo-Pacific partners (IP4) of NATO: South Korea, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. Following this, he will participate in the main NATO summit.
