Gyeonggi Province announced on the 11th that the extended section of Subway Line 8, Byeollae Line (Amsa Station ~ Byeollae Station), connecting Byeollae Station in Namyangju City and Amsa Station in Seoul, will open on August 10th.
The Byeollae Line (Amsa ~ Byeollae) is a total length of 12.9 km, connecting six stations from the existing Line 8 Amsa Station in Gangdong-gu, Seoul to Byeollae Station in Namyangju.
A total of 1.3916 trillion KRW was invested in the project, with Gyeonggi Province responsible for construction zones 3 to 6, and Seoul City responsible for zones 1 and 2. Construction began in 2016, and it is opening after eight years.
The Byeollae Line will operate with a six-car train set, with intervals of about 4.5 minutes during rush hour and about 8 minutes during regular hours, at a maximum speed of 80 km/h.
Gyeonggi Province and Seoul City started comprehensive railway test operations in July 2023, completing various tests, preliminary inspections, facility verification tests, and commercial test operations.
Currently, only the final comprehensive report and administrative procedures for safety management system approval remain before the opening.
Park Jae-young, head of Gyeonggi Province's Railway, Port and Logistics Bureau, said, "When the Byeollae Line opens, it will take 27 minutes from Byeollae to Jamsil, and transfers will be available to Line 2 (Jamsil), Line 3 (Garak Market), Line 5 (Cheonho), Line 9 (Seokchon), Suin-Bundang Line (Bokjeong, Moran), Gyeongui-Jungang Line (Guri), and Gyeongchun Line (Byeollae). This will significantly improve transportation conditions in the northeastern Gyeonggi region and reduce commuting time, laying a great foundation for regional development. We will do our best to open the line on time with a priority on safety."
