LG Chem's Daesan plant has resumed normal operations 13 days after production was halted due to a power outage.
On the 10th, LG Chem announced in a public disclosure that it had gradually resumed production starting with some downstream processes on the 27th of last month and that as of this day, the plant was operating at 100% capacity.
The power outage occurred at LG Chem and Lotte Chemical plants on the 25th of last month at around 9:30 AM. Although power supply was restored in approximately an hour and a half, both companies decided to restart operations only after burning off raw materials that had been introduced into the production process and completing equipment inspections.
Lotte Chemical had already resumed normal operations on the 6th.
The naphtha cracking center (NCC) at LG Chem's Daesan plant has an annual production capacity of 1.3 million tons of ethylene, while Lotte Chemical's facility has a capacity of 1.1 million tons per year.
The temporary shutdown of the plants is expected to have resulted in financial losses of at least several billion won for both companies.
However, LG Chem stated that the impact on sales would be limited due to existing inventory and production at other plants.
Currently, LG Chem and Lotte Chemical are investigating the cause of the power outage and are reviewing the possibility of filing damage claims against related companies.
