Global sportswear brand Adidas has officially confirmed that some customer information collected through its customer service center was leaked to external parties, raising renewed concerns about security vulnerabilities in corporate customer response systems.
In an email sent to its customers on the 16th, Adidas stated, "It has been confirmed that personal information of some customers who contacted our customer service in 2024 or earlier was leaked to third parties."
The leaked information may include names, email addresses, phone numbers, and dates of birth, but Adidas clarified that passwords and financial data were not affected.
Although the exact timing and method of the breach have not been disclosed, Adidas said it is conducting a thorough investigation with the help of a cybersecurity firm and has reported the incident to relevant authorities.
The company added that it will strengthen its data protection measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Previously, French luxury brand Dior also suffered a similar customer information breach in January. Dior became aware of the hacking on the 7th of this month and officially notified customers on the 13th.
The recent string of attacks targeting vulnerabilities in customer inquiry data storage and handling has highlighted the urgent need for companies to conduct comprehensive security audits of their customer service systems.
A cybersecurity expert commented, "It has been confirmed that even data collected through simple inquiries can become blind spots for hacking," emphasizing the importance of systematic risk analysis and continuous security management for customer-facing systems.
