On September 6, Geespace, a subsidiary of Geely, successfully launched 10 low Earth orbit (LEO) communication satellites from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center.
The launch was carried out using a Long March 6 rocket and was part of the “Geely Future Mobility Constellation” project.
With this launch, Geespace now operates a total of 30 LEO communication satellites.
Through this, Geespace is now capable of providing 24-hour communication services to 90% of the world, taking a step closer to expanding the global communications infrastructure.
The Geely Future Mobility Constellation project is composed of three stages, and this launch marks the first stage.
Geespace aims to launch an additional 72 satellites by 2025, with the goal of providing low-to-medium-speed satellite communication services to 200 million people worldwide.
Following the second launch of 11 satellites in February 2024, this is the third launch, and Geely’s satellite constellation continues to expand.
Geespace plans to deploy a total of 6,000 satellites into LEO by 2025, of which 168 will be equipped with “Direct-to-Cell” functionality, providing communication services directly connected to mobile phones on the ground.
Additionally, Geespace plans to expand its satellite communication services to the Middle East and African markets by collaborating with overseas telecom operators in countries such as Malaysia and Oman.
In 2023, Geespace entered into a partnership with Malaysian telecom operator Altel and conducted satellite communication tests with Oman’s Azyan Telecom.
