China has made new progress in space technology by successfully retrieving a reusable experimental satellite.

On the 11th, China Central Television (CCTV) reported that the China National Space Administration (CNSA) had successfully recovered the experimental satellite Shijian-19 at the Dongfeng landing site in Inner Mongolia.

This satellite was launched on a Long March-2D rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Gansu Province on the 27th of last month.

The Shijian-19 satellite was developed by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), a state-owned space enterprise, and will be used for various space science experiments and new technology verification, including plant seed experiments.

This recovery is considered a significant achievement, demonstrating China’s technological capabilities in the field of reusable launch vehicles.

Xinhua News Agency referred to this as a major breakthrough in reusable rocket and satellite technology.

Reusable satellites and rockets can drastically reduce manufacturing costs, making them highly sustainable and economically efficient.

Until now, this technology has been primarily led by SpaceX in the United States, and China is now actively joining the competition.

SpaceX has successfully established a business model by reducing launch costs with reusable launch vehicles like Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy.

In addition to the state-owned CASC, China’s private space companies, such as LandSpace (蓝箭航天) and Galactic Energy (星河动力), are also developing reusable rockets, further strengthening China’s competitiveness in this field in the future.
