The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport announced on the 15th the statistics on apartment defects and the top 20 construction companies with the most defect rulings, based on the decisions made by the Defect Review and Dispute Mediation Committee (DRDMC) from March to August of this year.
In this announcement, Hyundai Engineering was identified as the construction company with the most defect rulings.
Out of the 2,343 units built by Hyundai Engineering, 118 cases of defects were reported, resulting in a defect ruling rate of 5.0% compared to the number of units.
In particular, Hyundai Engineering received 117 defect rulings in a 1,344-unit officetel complex due to insufficient mohair length in windows and faulty fascia panels.
Hyundai Engineering explained that the issue was due to the materials supplied rather than a problem with the design or construction.
The second-ranked company in this announcement was Jaehyun Construction Industry, which recorded 92 cases of defects, resulting in a defect ruling rate of 96.8%.
Third place went to GV General Construction, with 82 cases of defects in 32 units, resulting in a defect ruling rate of a staggering 256.3%.
The Ministry of Land also disclosed the construction companies with the highest defect ruling rates in this announcement, highlighting that small-scale companies recorded high defect rates.
Sampo General Construction saw 71 defects in 8 units, resulting in the highest defect ruling rate at 887.5%.
Following this were Taegok General Construction (657.1%) and Woori PMC General Construction (587.5%).
The number of defect cases is increasing every year, with 3,027 cases filed in 2022, rising to 3,313 cases last year.
As of August this year, 3,119 cases had already been filed, and the total is expected to reach 4,700 cases by the end of the year.
The Ministry of Land announced plans to improve the defect management system and to swiftly address significant defects.
