Prada and Axiom Space Unveil Next-Gen Spacesuit for Artemis III Mission

Italian luxury brand Prada has joined forces with American space company Axiom Space to develop the next-generation lunar exploration spacesuit.

The spacesuit was unveiled on October 16 and is set to be used for NASA’s Artemis III mission.

The two companies officially announced their collaboration on spacesuit development in October 2023.

Unveiled on the 16th, the spacesuit maintains the classic white base while incorporating Prada’s signature red stripes and gray on the sleeves and torso, adding a sophisticated touch.

Russell Ralston, Axiom Space's Spacesuit Program Manager, said, “We have combined engineering, science, and art to create the best spacesuit so astronauts can carry out their missions safely and comfortably.”

The suit is designed to withstand the extreme conditions of the lunar South Pole, with the capability to endure temperatures fluctuating from -203°C to 54°C for at least two hours.

Furthermore, astronauts wearing this suit will be able to conduct spacewalks for up to eight hours.

Notably, this spacesuit is crafted as unisex to include female astronauts for the Artemis III mission and is adjustable to accommodate various body shapes and sizes.

Prada dedicated ten employees to the spacesuit’s development, traveling between the Milan headquarters and Axiom Space’s location in Houston, USA, to work on the project.
