Namyang Dairy Products announced on the 12th that it would accept the court's decision without appeal after being fined for false advertising regarding its fermented milk product, Bulgarius, which claimed to have COVID-19 prevention effects.
This statement comes following allegations of violating the Food Labeling and Advertising Act over claims made during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021.
On the 7th, the Seoul Central District Court imposed a fine on Namyang Dairy for promoting scientifically unproven benefits. The court ruled that "advertising unverified effects carries a significant risk of misleading consumers."
In response, Namyang Dairy stated, "We humbly accept the first trial’s verdict, respect the court’s decision, and will establish thorough measures to ensure such incidents do not recur."
The company also expressed its apologies, saying, "We sincerely apologize to the consumers who may have felt disappointed by this incident. With a new management team at the forefront, we are making every effort to prevent recurrence and restore trust."
Furthermore, Namyang pledged to prioritize integrity and trust as core values, stating, "We will take this incident as a painful lesson and commit to strict compliance and ethical management."
Although the incident has dealt a significant blow to Namyang Dairy's image, the company reiterated its commitment to transparent management and regaining consumer trust.
