Former Samsung Electronics Vice President Ahn Seung-ho (64), who had been detained on charges of unauthorized leakage of confidential materials and filing a patent lawsuit in the U.S., is set to be released on bail following court approval.

The Seoul Central District Court's Criminal Agreement Division 28, presided over by Judge Han Dae-kyun, approved Ahn's bail request on the 13th and imposed conditions for his release.

The bail conditions include a deposit of 30 million won, restrictions on his residence, prohibition from approaching or harming individuals related to the case, and other stipulations.

Additionally, Ahn is required to wear an electronic tracking device to monitor his movements and attend all court hearings. He must also obtain prior court approval for international travel or trips lasting more than three days.

Ahn, who served as the inaugural head of Samsung Electronics' IP Center, oversaw patent defense operations for a decade.

After retiring in 2019, he founded a non-practicing entity (NPE) and was accused of colluding with Samsung Electronics employees to steal confidential information. Based on this, he allegedly filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Samsung Electronics in the U.S., leading to his indictment on charges of violating the Unfair Competition Prevention and Trade Secret Protection Act.
