Two male reporters working for JTBC have been fired for sexual harassment scandal. The reporters of JTBC, a cable network, were accused of having assaulted two other female reporters while they were on business trip to Mongolia.
The TV station was said to fire them as the reporters undermined its credibility due to the sexual scandal. However, one of the reporters, surnamed Jeon, plans to file an appeal to National Labor Relations Commission as he could not accept the company's decision. They are under investigation by police as well.
Earlier on April 9, the Journalists Association of Korea(JAK) sent four journalists to Mongolia based on a joint agreement with its counterpart. After arriving in Mongolia, the four reporters attended a banquet prepared by the Journalist Association of Mongolia on April 12. Then, after the banquet, the two male reporters on the trip allegedly assaulted their female colleagues sexually.
After the incident, the JAK assured a thorough investigation. However the JAK has been also blamed for the scandal as many have questioned it runs the program properly.
JTBC also applogized for the case and vowed to carry out official fact-finding and disciplinarly proceedings. However, the TV station saw another reporter, surnamed Yoon, who violated his female colleague and fired him just before the case.
