This is the second incident of a bullet being found this year, raising concerns about airport security.
At around 7:30 a.m. on the 2nd of this month, Incheon Airport Police found a 7.62mm bullet while searching the carry-on bag of female crew member A, who was about to board a Korean Air flight from Incheon to Bangkok at Terminal 2 of Incheon International Airport.
The Incheon Airport Police seized the bullet and allowed A to depart, planning to investigate the circumstances of her possession of the bullet upon her return.
Korean Air's internal investigation concluded that A did not intentionally bring the bullet onboard. The airline stated its intention to fully cooperate with the police investigation.
This is the second incident this year of a bullet being found at Incheon Airport.
In March, a cleaner on a Korean Air flight reported finding a 9mm bullet under a passenger seat to the authorities.
With these incidents occurring in succession, there are increasing calls for inspections and improvements to Incheon International Airport's security system.
An airport official stated, "We will conduct a thorough investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident and take security enhancement measures to prevent recurrence."
The police plan to thoroughly investigate not only the circumstances of A's possession of the bullet but also any other security loopholes within the airport.
