Recently, ABL and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of Oman signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding the use of the Etlaq Spaceport.

The signing ceremony was attended by representatives from the CAA and the U.S. Ambassador to Oman.

The main content of this agreement is to launch ABL's RS1 rocket from the Etlaq Spaceport.

The launch site is currently under construction, and specific schedules such as the first launch date have not yet been disclosed.

The CAA also announced that it would improve regulatory and export control frameworks between the U.S. and Oman governments.

The construction of the Etlaq Spaceport is being promoted as part of the Oman Vision 2040 plan.

The launch site is expected to be capable of rocket launches as early as 2027, with the goal of full operation by 2030.

The site will have three launch pads for medium-large, medium-small, and small launch vehicles.

The Etlaq Spaceport is located at a latitude of 18 degrees, providing access to various orbits, including sun-synchronous and low inclination orbits.

An Oman government official stated that the Etlaq launch site does not need to compete with the launch site in French Guiana due to its proximity to the equator.

Additionally, the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean to the east of the launch site ensure safe launches without risk to people or property.

ABL experienced a failure during the first launch of the RS1 rocket in January 2023.

The RS1 rocket, which launched from Kodiak Island, Alaska, suffered a simultaneous shutdown of all nine first-stage E2 engines shortly after liftoff, resulting in a crash that damaged part of the launch site and caused the loss of two small satellites.

The date for the second orbital launch of the RS1 rocket has not yet been set.
