Russia is set to embark on the construction of its independent space station.
The first module will be launched in 2027, with the goal of completing the station by 2033.
Yuri Borisov, head of Roscosmos, officially approved this timeline on July 2, with the signatures of representatives from 19 enterprises under Roscosmos included in the related documents.
This is considered the first step in Russia's concrete plan to build its own space station.
The first module, aimed at orbital experiments and energy supply, is scheduled to be launched aboard the Angara-A5M rocket in 2027.
Following this, three additional modules—a universal module, a gateway, and a baseline module—will be launched by 2030 to expand the size and functionality of the space station. Lastly, from 2031 to 2033, two special-purpose modules (TsM1 and TsM2) will be added.
The total project cost is estimated at 609 billion rubles, which is viewed as a significant investment to solidify Russia's status as a space power.
Notably, there is also a mission planned in 2028 to send the first cosmonaut to the Russian space station, drawing global attention.
This project is expected to be a crucial milestone demonstrating Russia's space technology and its commitment to independent space exploration.
