India-Russia Summit, Discussion on Strengthening Space Cooperation and Expanding Economic Cooperation

 

 

 

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met in Russia on July 9 to discuss the Ukraine issue and ways to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.

The two leaders emphasized the importance of cooperation in the space sector and pledged to expand collaboration across various fields, including this area.

In a joint statement, the leaders welcomed the space cooperation between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Russian State Space Corporation "Roscosmos."

The leaders announced that cooperation between the two countries in the peaceful use of outer space, including human spaceflight programs, satellite navigation, and planetary exploration, would be further strengthened.

President Putin congratulated India on the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3, noting that India's impressive progress in science and engineering would be mutually beneficial for future cooperation between the two countries.

The two countries agreed to explore mutually beneficial cooperation possibilities in the development, production, and use of rocket engines.

Furthermore, they emphasized the need to promote cultural exchanges, including large-scale exhibitions and exchange programs in various fields such as science and technology, green energy, and space, to enhance modern understanding.

To this end, the two countries agreed to hold a "Cross/Multisectoral Year of Exchanges" encompassing economics, education, science, and civil society.

President Putin and Prime Minister Modi expressed their intention to strengthen cooperation within the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN COPUOS), including issues related to the long-term sustainability of outer space activities.
