A fire caused by a portable battery occurred on an Eastar Jet passenger plane approaching Incheon Airport.
On the night of the 11th, smoke started emanating from a passenger's portable battery on Eastar Jet flight ZE512, which departed from Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, Thailand, and was scheduled to arrive at Incheon Airport on the morning of the 12th. There were 181 passengers on board at the time.
The incident is reported to have occurred when a passenger was using two connected portable batteries.
In response, Eastar Jet reported that the cabin crew immediately detected the smoke and extinguished the fire by pouring water on it. Fortunately, no casualties were reported from this incident.
Portable batteries are classified as dangerous goods for air transport, and regulations only allow passengers to carry them on board.
A similar incident occurred last April.
At that time, smoke emanated from a passenger's portable battery on an Asiana Airlines flight from Gimpo to Jeju, causing delays in subsequent flights.
An Eastar Jet spokesperson stated, "We promptly completed the cabin reorganization, and there were no delays in connecting flights."
