Daemyung Sono Group Expands Overseas Business with Acquisition of Two Golf Courses in Guam
On the 4th, Daemyung Sono Group announced that it had signed an acquisition agreement with Onward Resort & Golf and officially began operating ‘Onward Mangilao Golf Club’ and ‘Onward Talofofo Golf Club’ as of the 1st.
Following the acquisition, the golf courses have been rebranded as ‘Sono Felice Country Club Guam Mangilao’ and ‘Sono Felice Country Club Guam Talofofo.’
Mangilao Golf Course is located along the eastern coast of Guam, covering an area of 1.09 million square meters (330,000 pyeong) with an 18-hole course. Designed by renowned golf course architect Robin Nelson, it is widely recognized as a prestigious golf course.
Talofofo Golf Course, situated in the inland southern region of Guam, spans 1.16 million square meters (350,000 pyeong) and features an 18-hole course. This course was designed by legendary PGA Tour players Sam Snead and Ben Hogan, making it a popular choice among golfers who favor strategic play.
This acquisition marks Daemyung Sono Group’s first direct operation of golf courses overseas, representing a significant milestone in its global business expansion.
Currently, Daemyung Sono Group operates three golf courses in South Korea and manages ‘Sono Felice Hai Phong CC’ in Vietnam under a consignment agreement. The company also operates 20 hotels and resorts domestically, including the soon-to-open ‘Sol Beach Namhae,’ making it the largest hotel and resort operator in Korea.
Daemyung Sono Group has been steadily expanding its presence in international markets.
Since beginning the consignment operation of ‘Sono Bell Hai Phong’ in Vietnam in 2019, the group has continued to expand its global portfolio by acquiring ‘Normandy Hotel’ in Washington, D.C. (2022), ‘33 Seaport Hotel New York’ (2023), ‘Dame des Arts Hotel’ in Paris, France (2024), and ‘Waikiki Resort Hotel’ in Hawaii.
Notably, following its recent acquisition of T’way Air, Daemyung Sono Group expects to create synergy by integrating its airline and tourism businesses.
With T’way Air operating seven weekly flights to Guam, the company plans to develop travel packages linked to the golf courses and is also considering the operation of a golf resort.
A representative from Daemyung Sono Group stated, “Leveraging our expertise in golf course and hotel & resort operations both domestically and internationally, we will successfully manage the Mangilao and Talofofo golf courses in Guam.” They added, “Through the group’s unified ‘SONO’ brand, we aim to provide an integrated travel experience.”
