Apple has postponed the release of a key feature in its advanced AI-powered voice assistant, Siri.

On March 7 (local time), Apple announced in a statement that "the launch of the new Siri, which offers personalized features, has been delayed until next year" and that "additional development time is required."

The updated Siri is designed to analyze user data to understand daily habits and context, offering more natural and efficient assistance. This feature is one of the core elements of Apple's "Personal Intelligence" initiative. CEO Tim Cook previously stated that "Personal Intelligence, beyond AI, will shape Apple's future."

Originally unveiled at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, the enhanced Siri was set to be included in iOS 18.4. While iOS 18.4 is still scheduled for official release in April, the delay of this key feature has left some users disappointed.

Industry analysts suggest that Apple's decision stems from challenges in AI development. Bloomberg recently reported that Apple's AI research team has been struggling with leadership and engineering issues.

Concerns are also growing that Apple's AI innovation pace is lagging behind competitors. While Apple faces challenges in strengthening Siri, rivals are rapidly advancing. Amazon recently introduced 'Alexa+,' a generative AI-powered voice assistant available as a paid service. Additionally, Google and Microsoft continue to enhance their AI-driven voice assistants and chatbot technologies.

Experts warn that if Apple is perceived as falling behind in the AI race, it could negatively impact iPhone and other product sales.

Meanwhile, Apple is also planning a future Siri update with more advanced conversational capabilities. However, the delay of personalized Siri features may affect Apple's overall AI roadmap, with some experts predicting that the enhanced conversational functions could be postponed until after 2027.
