Finland's ICEYE Unveils 25cm Resolution SAR Satellite Imagery, Ushering in an Era of Precision Ground Observation

 

 

 

 

Finnish satellite company ICEYE unveiled on the 2nd its synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite imagery with a world-leading resolution of 25 cm.

This is the most precise imagery currently available from civilian satellites, enabling highly detailed ground observation.

The imagery released was captured by the "in-orbit demonstrator," launched into low Earth orbit in March, and it depicts the port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands as of September 4th.

ICEYE used the maximum bandwidth available to civilian satellites, 1,200 MHz, to capture this high-resolution imagery, achieving a level of detail where ground vehicles or military equipment can be identified without additional information.

ICEYE's SAR satellite imagery is known for its ability to provide stable Earth observation regardless of time of day or weather conditions.

This 25 cm resolution imagery is expected to be utilized in a variety of fields, including military and security, disaster management, maritime surveillance, and infrastructure monitoring.

According to ICEYE’s statement, such high-resolution SAR technology holds significant importance for military applications, as it allows clear distinction and identification of ground military equipment or vehicles, making it a powerful tool in reconnaissance and defense sectors.
