It has been revealed that the number of employees at the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (NongHyup) receiving disciplinary actions due to inappropriate behavior has surged this year.

False travel expense claims and sexual harassment have been cited as major reasons for these disciplinary actions, raising concerns about ethical standards within the organization.

According to data submitted by Representative Kim Sun-kyo, a member of the National Assembly’s Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock, Food, and Fisheries Committee, a total of 10 employees have been disciplined from January to September this year.

This number significantly exceeds the 7 employees disciplined last year and 9 in 2022.

Notably, 7 out of the 10 disciplined employees were found to have falsely claimed travel expenses by using canceled train tickets.

These employees had repeatedly engaged in this practice from 2019 to 2022, and cases of submitting false lodging documents were also identified.

The employees explained that they "lacked sufficient knowledge of the regulations," but NongHyup’s personnel committee deemed this explanation inappropriate, considering their average service period of 10 years, and imposed penalties such as suspension, pay cuts, and reprimands.

Additionally, two other employees were found to have improperly executed a budget, spending 14 million KRW out of a 25 million KRW budget on restricted categories.

These employees had previously been recognized with commendations, which led to their punishments being reduced to reprimands.

Furthermore, one employee was disciplined for sexual harassment.

In December last year, this employee was found to have made inappropriate physical contact with a subordinate in the same department, resulting in a three-month pay cut.

Representative Kim pointed out, “The repeated misconduct by NongHyup employees year after year is a serious problem,” stressing the need for stronger disciplinary measures and enhanced education.
