Italy will restart the ‘Luigi Broglio Space Centre’ located on Kenya’s coast after 30 years.

Adolfo Urso, Italy's Minister of Industry, announced the plan to reactivate the ‘Luigi Broglio Space Centre’ on October 13.

The Luigi Broglio Space Centre is operated under the management of the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and is located 30 km north of Malindi, Kenya.

First operational in 1964, this launch site was once actively used but has been in a state of abandonment since its last rocket launch in 1988.

Minister Urso stated that the launch site will mainly be used for launching small satellites aimed at observing phenomena such as climate change, particularly desertification, in low Earth orbit.

Additionally, the site will also serve as a place for education and training for local students and scientists.

It is expected that repair work will take about 1-2 years to reactivate the launch site.
