The Ministry of the Interior and Safety recently announced on the 20th that it has implemented the "Regulations on the Management of Public Employees, etc." which includes extending the retirement age of public employees from 60 to a maximum of 65.
This measure applies to approximately 2,300 public employees, including janitorial and facility management staff working in government buildings nationwide.
According to the revision, those born in 1964 will have their retirement age extended to 63, those born between 1965 and 1968 to 64, and those born after 1969 to 65. The retirement age extension will be subject to a separate review by the Ministry.
Furthermore, public employees will be able to take up to a year of leave for medical treatment, including infertility and in vitro treatments, with the possibility of extending this leave for an additional year depending on the situation.
Additionally, public employees who are pregnant or have children under the age of eight will be able to apply for parental leave for up to three years, expanding support for workers to balance work and family life.
A ministry official stated, "This is a measure to improve the treatment of public employees in response to the low birth rate," and emphasized that the focus was on providing public employees with welfare benefits equivalent to those of civil servants.
