Rocket Lab launched two Electron rockets on November 24 in a single day.
This marks the first time the company has conducted two launches within 24 hours, showcasing the performance and supply reliability of the Electron rocket.
The first launch took place at the dedicated launch site (Launch Complex 2) in Virginia, USA. It was a hypersonic suborbital mission, using the "Hypersonic Accelerator Suborbital Test Electron" (HASTE) developed based on the Electron rocket. Details about the payload and customer were not disclosed.
The first launch of HASTE occurred in June 2023, and this was its second launch.
The second launch on the 24th took place at Rocket Lab’s dedicated launch site (Launch Complex 1B) in New Zealand. The Electron rocket carried five small IoT satellites commissioned by the French company Kinéis.
Kinéis previously launched 10 IoT satellites (5 per launch) into low Earth orbit using the Electron rocket in June and September. The company is planning two more launches with Electron rockets in 2025.
This is the first time Rocket Lab has completed two rocket launches within 24 hours, with the previous shortest interval being a week.
Peter Beck, CEO of Rocket Lab, commented in a statement on the 24th, “This is an unprecedented capability in the small launch vehicle market,” and expressed pride in the achievement.
Meanwhile, this launch marked Rocket Lab's 14th rocket launch of 2024. The initial goal for the year was 22 launches, but given the current situation, the company is expected to finish the year with approximately 15 to 18 launches.
