The Indian government is planning to boost private sector participation in the ground segment industry.
Previously, India introduced various policies to expand private involvement in the fields of space launch vehicles and satellites.
The initiative for industrializing the ground segment is outlined in a consulting report by the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), recently revealed through local media.
In the ground segment sector, IN-SPACe sees significant growth potential in the business concept of "Ground Station as a Service" (GSaaS). GSaaS is a business model that generates revenue by receiving, processing, managing, and distributing data sent by customer satellites to Earth.
According to local reports, the GSaaS industry is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 30% and expand from $14 million to $2.5 billion by 2033.
The Indian government aims to increase India's share in the global commercial space market from 2% to 8% by 2033, with the industrialization of GSaaS being a key part of this strategy, as analyzed by local media.
In July, Hyderabad-based Dhruva Space became India's first registered GSaaS provider after receiving approval from IN-SPACe.
