The U.S. Department of Commerce is leading the development of the "Traffic Coordination System for Space" (TraCSS), whose official website (TraCSS.gov) is set to launch to the public by late 2025.
The user interface design for the website is being handled by Slingshot Aerospace, a U.S.-based startup specializing in space object tracking and analysis.
The Office of Space Commerce (OSC), part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), announced on November 26 that it has signed a $5.3 million contract with Slingshot for this project. The contract duration is 12 months, with an option to extend it for up to four additional years.
The beta version of TraCSS began providing services on September 30, despite the absence of an official website. Currently, it only delivers conjunction notices to nine pre-selected satellite operators.
NOAA plans to publicly launch the official TraCSS website by late 2025 and subsequently transition civilian users from the U.S. Department of Defense's space situational awareness website, space-track.org, to TraCSS.gov.
Rick Spinrad, NOAA Administrator, stated in a press release on November 26, “By leveraging Slingshot’s off-the-shelf solution, we aim to launch TraCSS.gov by late 2025 and ensure that general users can sign up for access.”
This contract marks the second agreement awarded to Slingshot related to TraCSS. In January, the company was selected to supply low Earth orbit space situational awareness data for the system.
