Vietnam PM Asks US to Lift Satellite Tech Export Restrictions

 

 

 

Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has requested the United States to approve the export of satellite communication technology to Vietnam.

During an event hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Hanoi on November 27, PM Chinh stated, "We hope the United States will lift restrictions on the export of security-related technologies to Vietnam."

He further emphasized Vietnam's desire to develop satellite communication capabilities and revealed that negotiations with SpaceX are underway regarding this matter.

PM Chinh questioned the ongoing restrictions, stating, "We hope the U.S. will lift certain embargoes on technology for Vietnam. Why are these embargoes still in place when we are not in conflict with anyone?"

Currently, the United States prohibits the export of technologies deemed critical to its security, including those related to chemical and biological weapons, to Vietnam.

However, the U.S. allows the export of certain conventional weapons and nuclear and missile-related technologies to Vietnam.
