The French Space Agency (CNES) recently announced the signing of a contract for 'on-orbit services' with a consortium led by the domestic space company Infinite Orbits.

This contract is part of the French government's 'France 2030 initiative' to invest in innovative technologies. Infinite Orbits secured the contract in collaboration with the Italian space company Telespazio.

Founded in Toulouse in 2017, Infinite Orbits is developing the satellite refueling service 'Endurance' and the small satellite 'Orbit Guard' for inspecting geostationary satellites.

Under this contract, Infinite Orbits will conduct a mission to refuel defunct communication satellites using the Endurance satellite.

This will provide enough fuel to allow customer satellites to operate for an additional five years. The specific schedule for the mission has not yet been confirmed, but after refueling, the Endurance satellite will remain near the customer satellite, ready to deorbit it into the Earth's atmosphere for disposal if necessary.

Additionally, the contract includes a mission to inspect customer satellites using the Orbit Guard satellite.

This satellite will approach the non-operational geostationary weather satellite EUMETSAT Meteosat 8 to assess its condition. The exact timing of this mission has also not yet been determined.
