The Samsung Electronics Labor Union (Jeonsamno) has embarked on its first indefinite general strike since the company's founding.
After conducting a first strike from the 8th to the 10th, Jeonsamno planned a second strike from the 15th to the 20th. However, due to the company's lack of dialogue, they declared an indefinite strike starting on the 10th.
The union is demanding the following in this strike: ▲1 day guaranteed as a founding holiday of the union ▲an average wage increase of 3.5% for all union members ▲improvement of the bonus system ▲compensation for economic losses due to the strike.
Jeonsamno pointed out that the company did not attempt any dialogue during the first strike period, explaining the background for the indefinite strike.
A total of 6,540 members have expressed their intention to participate in this strike, with 5,211 of them belonging to the semiconductor equipment, manufacturing, and development departments, making up the majority.
Jeonsamno has set the strike's goal as 'production disruption,' and claims that despite the automation of semiconductor plants, production disruptions are inevitable due to the lack of related personnel.
However, the company has stated that no production disruptions have occurred so far, and all production lines are operating normally.
Jeonsamno is the largest union within Samsung Electronics, with about 31,000 members, accounting for 24.8% of all Samsung Electronics employees.
Jeonsamno has urged its members to refrain from going to work until further instructions from the executive committee, emphasizing that "a decisive action is needed to achieve our goals and victory."
