On the 9th, the POSCO Citizen Task Force (hereinafter referred to as the Task Force) issued a statement strongly urging POSCO Group Chairman Jang In-hwa to innovate regarding former Chairman Choi Jeong-woo and to establish the Future Technology Research Institute in Pohang.
Additionally, they demanded an apology and reflection from Jeon Joong-seon, President of POSCO E&C, towards the citizens of Pohang.
The Task Force acknowledged the positive changes under Chairman Jang In-hwa during his first 100 days, including enhanced on-site communication and executive salary cuts. However, they pointed out that it is difficult to confirm a genuine commitment to innovation concerning the treatment of former Chairman Choi Jeong-woo and the Future Technology Research Institute issue.
Specifically, the Task Force presented detailed demands, including significant salary cuts for former Chairman Choi Jeong-woo, the closure of extravagant offices, blocking excessive legal fees related to the company lease car embezzlement case, and the establishment of the Future Technology Research Institute in Pohang.
They criticized President Jeon Joong-seon as a loyalist to former Chairman Choi Jeong-woo, holding him responsible for fostering conflicts between the citizens of Pohang and POSCO, and demanded the withdrawal of the lawsuit against Task Force Executive Director Lim Jong-baek and an apology.
Task Force Chairman Kang Chang-ho emphasized, "We demand a prompt clarification on the co-prosperity and development plans for the future of Pohang and POSCO, including the establishment of a Future Technology Research Institute centered in Pohang and the establishment of POSTECH's Medical Science College."
Meanwhile, the Task Force plans to reorganize soon and finalize a new name.
