The detention of two former media executives, accused of receiving money and being asked to arrange favorable articles from Kim Man-bae, a key figure in the Daejang-dong development project, is expected to be decided as early as the 15th.
According to the legal community on the 12th, Judge Kim Seok-beom of the Seoul Central District Court will conduct a pre-arrest interrogation (warrant review) for former JoongAng Ilbo executive A and former deputy chief of Hankyoreh newspaper B on the morning of the 15th.
The hearing will determine the necessity of detaining the two individuals.
A and B are accused of receiving money from Kim Man-bae and being asked to prevent critical reports related to the Daejang-dong development project and to arrange favorable articles.
The investigation revealed that A received a total of 201 million won from Kim from April 2019 to August 2021, while B received a total of 890 million won from May 2019 to August 2020.
Prosecutors suspect that Kim lobbied close journalists to prevent the problems of the Daejang-dong project from being revealed, and as a result, unfavorable articles about the project were not reported in the respective media outlets.
