The UAE defense company 'Edge' has announced the establishment of its space business subsidiary 'Fada,' which will manufacture and assemble Earth observation satellites and provide cybersecurity solutions, in an effort to create a new chapter in the nation's space industry.
'Fada' is set to actively participate in the development of the 'Sirb' Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite constellation program, spearheaded by the UAE Space Agency.
The program aims to develop a constellation of three SAR satellites to provide various observation data, with the first satellite scheduled for launch in 2026.
'Edge,' Fada's parent company, was selected as the strategic partner for the 'Sirb' mission in 2023.
Satellite operations will be handled by Yahsat, geospatial data management will be overseen by Bayanat, and the National Space Science and Technology Centre will be responsible for satellite assembly, integration, and testing operations.
Waleid Al Mesmari, President of Space and Cyber Technologies at 'Edge,' stated, "Our goal is to create a 'one-stop shop' that can solve everything in one place. Our company aims to provide Earth observation services that can benefit various civilian applications such as urban planning, emergency response, and land vegetation monitoring."
Through the establishment of 'Fada,' 'Edge' aims to diversify its business portfolio in the space industry and seek new growth drivers in the expanding space sector.
'Fada' is constructing a facility in Abu Dhabi for satellite manufacturing, assembly, integration, and testing.
