The 4th Anniversary of the Late Samsung Chairman Lee Kun-hee, a Calm Memorial Focused on Medical and Cultural Contributions

 

 

 

 

On the 25th, the fourth anniversary of the late Samsung Chairman Lee Kun-hee, various memorial events are expected to take place.

However, as Samsung faces internal and external challenges this year, unlike last year, the focus will likely be on quiet and solemn events that honor the deceased and reflect on his achievements.

According to the business community on the 21st, Seoul National University Children’s Hospital’s Pediatric Cancer and Rare Disease Support Program is preparing an event where medical staff, patients, and their families will gather to commemorate the late chairman's philosophy of 'love for children.'

The program was launched in 2021 with a 300 billion KRW donation from Chairman Lee’s family and aims to support the treatment and research of pediatric cancer and rare diseases until 2030.

Additionally, on the 24th, a memorial concert will be held at Samsung Electronics' Leadership Development Center in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.

At last year’s third-anniversary concert, world-renowned pianist Cho Seong-jin and other rising performers participated in a musical tribute to the chairman’s life and legacy. This year, it is also expected that family members and Samsung executives will attend.

This year’s memorial events will particularly focus on cultural and medical contributions, highlighting the importance of 'human dignity' and 'cultural infrastructure' that Chairman Lee emphasized.

Samsung has continued to support cultural talents, museums, and concert halls based on the late chairman’s philosophy and has been involved in social contributions, such as the donation of the Lee Kun-hee Collection.

Since Chairman Lee's “New Management Declaration” in 1993, Samsung has undergone repeated innovation and has grown into a global company.

Chairman Lee, after suffering a heart attack in 2014, was bedridden for six years and five months before passing away on October 25, 2020, at the age of 78.

This year’s memorial will likely be a quiet ceremony, avoiding large-scale events, and will serve as a moment to reflect on the achievements and spirit of the late chairman.
