Japan's private lunar lander company "ispace" announced on the 9th that it has formed a partnership with the UK asteroid mining startup "Asteroid Mining Corporation" (AMC).
The partnership primarily involves loading AMC's mining robot onto ispace's lunar landers in future launches.
The mission schedule has not yet been set. The robot that AMC plans to send to the lunar surface is called the "Space Capable Asteroid Robotic – Explorer" (SCAR-E), which features six robotic legs resembling spider legs attached to its main body.
AMC emphasized that "the mining robot moves with legs, allowing it to explore terrains such as craters that are difficult for wheeled rovers to access."
Takeshi Hakamada, CEO of ispace, said, "Through this partnership, another innovative company will have the opportunity to test its technology on the lunar surface."
Meanwhile, ispace's second unmanned lunar lander is scheduled to launch aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket this December.
