NASA has raised the possibility of another delay in the Artemis 3 mission schedule.
Originally postponed from late 2025 to September 2026, the mission now has a 70% probability of being delayed again to early 2028, according to an internal NASA report.
This information was revealed in a report released by the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) on June 20.
The main reason for the delay is cited as the development delay of the Starship, which will be used for the lunar landing.
Delays in the development of spacesuits, which are essential for the Artemis 3 mission, are also causing scheduling issues.
According to NASA's investigation, a study conducted in December 2023 predicted that the Starship would be ready to land on the lunar surface by February 2028.
GAO, citing the NASA report, explained, "This conclusion was drawn through a comprehensive analysis of the costs, schedules, risks, and uncertainties involved in the project."
However, NASA expressed confidence in SpaceX, which is manufacturing the Starship, stating in a separate statement, "SpaceX will play a critical role in successfully achieving the Artemis 3 mission."
